The effects of UV radiation on humans

Explanation writing : Mahy- The effects of UV radiation on humans

Uv radiation – In cloudy days you can still get sunburn cause it reduce UVR , UVR level are around 40%  Sometimes working outside means more time in the sunlight means risk for u getting skin cancer, shade can reduce Uv radiation  to reduce by more than 50% , There are three types of UV radiation UVA , UVC and UVB

UVA: UVA Radiation goes deep into ur skin causing skin damage , wrinkles and blotchiness

UVB: UVB gets into ur top skin layer and can also cause sunburn and skin damage and skin cancer.

UVC: UVC is the most dangerous type of UV Radiation

There are lots of effects that are caused by UV rays such as , Skin cancer (Melanoma and Nonmelanoma) Other skin damage and eye damage sometimes sunburns can get bad your entire skin could react it’s called sun poisoning , 350 people lost their lives from having skin cancer like melanoma  in nz each year There is lots of sign to get skin cancer ,  A large brownish spot with darker speckles. A mole that changes  colour, size or feel or that bleeds. portions that appear red, pink, white, blue or blue-black. A painful bruise that itches or burns.

The sun and artificial sources, such as tanning beds, both produce uv radiation, a type of non-ionizing radiation. Even though it helps people in some areas, such as by producing vitamin D, there are also risks to their health. Sunlight is the sun’s natural source of UV radiation.

Before the age of 50, skin cancer rates are higher in women than in men, but after the age of 50, skin cancer rates are higher in men, which may be related to differences in UV exposure during free time and at work. According to estimations, One in 27 men and One in 40 women will get melanoma throughout their lives

Skin Cancer

Learn – Skin Cancer  / What is UVA , UVB and UVC  which is the most dangerous and why?

UVA: 95% of all UV rays that hit the surface of the Earth are UVA radiation. UVA can even enter through windows and reach deep within our skin. Your skin becomes damaged by UVA, giving you a tan. It is the primary radiation source in tanning beds.

UVB: There’s really data that two forms of UV light raise the risk of skin cancer. The wavelength of UVA is longer. It is related to wrinkling skin. The band of UVB is shorter. It is linked to burning skin.

UVC:  UVC radiation from the sun does not reach the earth’s surface. As a side effect, the only way for humans to be exposed to UVC radiation is through a synthetic source such as a lamp or laser.

The most harmful type of UV radiation is UVC. It is completely screened by the air and never reaches the earth’s surface. Although medium wavelength UVB is very active, it cannot penetrate beyond the skin’s surface.

Sunsmart

Learn- Sunsmart

-Why do the UV rays of the sun change during the day ?

Depending on the sun , The higher the sun gets the higher the UV Radiation Gets , Mostly the sun gets higher In the afternoon 10am to 4pm , In summer the UVR Levels are around 40% higher.

-What are the times when UV rays of the sun are most dangerous in Nz?

The sun is still most strong between 10 and noon. and 4 p.m. Reduce spending time in the sun during such hours, especially at greater levels and even in the winter. Stop burning. The lifelong risk of developing skin cancer is doubled by sunburns

-what affects UV radiation ?

Multiple factors, including the time of day, weather, cloud cover, altitude, location, and nearby surfaces, have an effect on the UV level.

-what is the UVNZ app?

UVNZ App Provides UVI Forecasts for locations across New zealand , Tells us the current UVI

(with or without) showing us how the UVI will change over the day .

what different type of radiation does the sun send

The radio wave band is a broad range of energy that includes all of the sun’s energy that reaches the Earth as solar radiation. Daylight, ultraviolet rays, heat, radio waves, X-rays, and gamma rays are all kinds of solar radiation.

Reading task – Virus poem

Today me and my group Mahy are making a poem about covid , My story is about how I first reacted to covid

  My Poem
In 2020, There was a mystery virus
I was really confused
It was named coronavirus, I started to get alerts
Beep Beep a warning pop up
Everyone is on lockdown, seeing people
Wearing mask feeling upset
This year is feeling really bad
We will see what happens next

Introduction Lesson 2

Today at Tamaki college with the yr 7ś we had science with miss Smallwood, We learned about The top safety rule
Rule 1 – Waer Your Goggle to proetect your eyes

Rule 2- Chemical use ( Don’t poor the chemicals back to the jar )

Rule 3 – Be careful with science equipment ¨Carry with both hands”

Rule 4 Eye safety ( Wear goggles on your eyes, not on your head )

Rule 5 – Skin safety ( if you Got any fumes on your body have a shower for 15min )

Rule 6 – Smelling fumes – Do Not smell any Chemical fumes

Rule 7 – Broken Glass ( If You have dropped glass objects make sure to tell the teacher, they will clean them up )

Rule 8 – Fire safety – When there is a fire Do Not throw any water, first Get out or ask the teacher to put it out

Rule 9 – Eating in the lab – Do not eat next to any chemicals

Rule 10 – Hand washing – wash your hands for 20 sec or sing happy birthday 🙂

After doing the Top 10 safety Rule we did 3D of our science class

Making a Poi

Today in room 7, we went to Te Oro to make poiś, for Maori language week, for making the pois we need 3 colors of Yarn (red, white, and Black) and Foam and a plastic bag
Step 1 – Grab your Foam and shape it into a circle doesn’t have to be perfect cause the plastic bag will cover all the bumps and lumps

Step 2 – Grab your 3 Yarn Measure the yarn from your hand to your elbow 3 times, after you have your 3 colors knot the end and cut it the same size after doing your knot braid the 3 colors to thoughts.

Step 3 – We warp Yarn ¨any color ¨ around a square shape 30 times after we cut the end of the string and cut in the middle to make a pom pom.

Step 4 – We made a little hole in our Circle foam and we put our braided Yarn Into the hole and covered it in our plastic bag and tie it around the string DONEE WE MADE A POI

We clean up the station Broom picked up every single yarn on the floor 10 minutes later our school leader said a warm Thank you to Benny, Faia, and Josh For teaching us to make a poi I enjoy making to celebrate the Maori language week we also walked to the Oro and back to school.
